History

History

In early 2007, a group of innovative professionals partnered together for one key purpose: to heal developmental trauma and attachment issues, often stemming from adoption.

Two of Calo’s original founders have an intimate connection with adoption: one as an adoptee and the other as an adoptive parent. These mental health professionals knew all too well the joys and beauty of adoption, and fully embraced its wonders of bringing families together! However, Calo’s founders noticed that the percentage of adopted teens in residential treatment was dramatically larger than the percentage of adoptees in the general population.

In fact, most adolescents in therapeutic programs had a history of early childhood trauma, to include relinquishment. Therefore, these three founders passionately created Calo to specifically heal families impacted by attachment issues and trauma. In order to serve families nationwide, the founders strategically set out to find a location in the central U.S. (and preferably with the bonus of being on a lake). Calo was established in mid-Missouri on the Lake of the Ozarks, which incorporated in November 2006 and opened the doors in March 2007. The mission remains the same today as it was then, to be the specialists in treating developmental trauma. Our vision is to profoundly change lives and create joy by providing world-class treatment for families impacted by developmental trauma, attachment needs, or emotional dysregulation.
